Pitch To Enrich

February 10, 2017

Wigan Pride and BYOU+ attended 'AXM Foundations Pitch to Enrich 2' event on Friday 3rd February 2017, Coming away with £500 after winning the judges choice. The original amount of £250 was doubled to support Wigan Pride 2017 and BYOU+ (Wigan borough's LGBTQ+ adult support and engagement).

Zak Bretherton (Chair and Co-Founder of BYOU+) - "I was apprehensive at first, before deciding to apply for Pitch to Enrich. I didn’t think anyone would really listen or care about what I had to say. I was applying for Wigan Pride 2017 and BYOU+. Why would people outside of the borough care? I thought. I was up first that night pitching to a room full of passionate and amazing people who do unbelievable work within the LGBTQ+ community. I explained the importance of pride events in smaller towns outside of large cities. The visibility that is needed for the 20,000+ LGBTQ people living in the borough. I am so glad we attended it was a brilliant night with the opportunity to not only apply for funding but a great networking opportunity, everyone in that room were passionate and pro-active people within the LGBTQ+ community. I was pleased to have received a invite but the biggest surprise of the night was when we actually won! I’m super grateful for the £500 awarded but what meant more to me was that these people barely knew me, they listened and they believed in me and what I’m passionate about. I'm going to sound like a broken record as previous Pitch to Enrich pitcher Junior Maxwell (DESTIGMATIZE), also spoke about how much it meant for someone to believe in you. That’s exactly what AXM foundation did for us. They believed in us and I recommend to anyone who’s passionate about our community to not only apply but support the AXM foundation".

Jess Eastoe (Vice Chair) It was a real honour for byou+ to be invited to such a credible event, from the AXM foundation. Winning the judges vote was incredible and we are thankful that a Manchester based lgbtq organisation is supportive of a small towns journey. We hope there are collaborative opportunities in the future to ensure Greater Manchester has the best lgbtq provision necessary for such an enlightened and progressive community.

Congratulations to the Gay Gordan's who won the people's vote and also well done to the amazing pitches and work from Manchester Village Spartans RUFC (Manchester and Northwest England’s Gay & Inclusive Rugby Union Team) and Jonathan Blackburn.

A few words from chairman of the foundation, Stuart Donnelly

"We’re delighted with the support and turn out for our second ‘Pitch To Enrich’. We’re proud of our flagship event which demonstrates exactly where the money raised for the foundation goes. As well as this we’re proud that our community that raises the money can listen, question and vote for where they want the money to go. A massive thank you to John Hamilton and his team for hosting our second event! Thank you to Misty Chance, Chris Hague and our fabulous host Debbie Roberts. On behalf of myself, Karen Richards and Debby Readhead the trustees of the AXM Foundation, we thank everyone for their support."

You can only gain from this great opportunity so I openly encourage all LGBT+ people living within the Greater Manchester area to get involved!

Wigan Pride & BYOU+ would like to take the opportunity to whole heartedly thank everyone involved in the night and the work AXM Foundation continue to do to support the LGBT community.

A special thanks to

Stuart Donnelly (Chair of AXM Foundation),

Karen Richards (Trustee at AXM Foundation)
